New Zealand’s Aluminium Smelter (NZAS)

New Zealand’s Aluminium Smelter (NZAS) is the country’s only aluminium smelter and is located on Tiwai Peninsula, near Bluff.  NZAS produces the highest purity aluminium in the world and operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Spotless are proud to have serviced the smelter for over 35 years and during this time have built strong working relationships with the NZAS team.  In the 1980s Spotless employed over 60 people to clean offices, crib rooms and bathrooms, including a 300 shower-room change house, on three shifts per day.  They are still going strong although with a much smaller team of only nine employees and two casuals.

The average length of service amongst the Spotless team is more than 20 years and these employees remain at NZAS because it is a great place to work.  The team is proud to be based in Southland and they endeavour to provide a high standard of cleaning at the smelter site, with long serving employees commenting that they will be there until retirement.

In addition to providing cleaning services, Spotless took over the NZAS canteen around four years ago and provide catering services to those on site through Alliance catering.  The cleaning team also clean the canteen on a daily basis.

NZAS Chief Executive and General Manager Gretta Stephens views the relationship with the Spotless team as a success story.  “Not only has Spotless provided outstanding service to NZAS over the years, they have also worked alongside us during tough financial times to reduce costs and save cash.  Today we honour this team and thank them for their contribution,” she says.
